The presentation ceremony for the first Deloitte China Sustainability Awards was held in Shanghai on February 27, 2014, with Panasonic Corporation of China (PCN) receiving the award for Best Environmental Performance.
The Deloitte China Sustainability Awards were hosted jointly by Deloitte China, the Chinese member farm of the international professional services network Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Of all the global companies achieving excellent results through sustainability initiatives in China, these initiatives sought to reward and recognize those producing the best results of all. The aim of the initiative was to emphasize the importance of sustainability in China.
PCN was presented with the award for Best Environmental Performance. The trophy was collected by Hidetoshi Osawa, Chairman & President of PCN and Regional Head for China and Northeast Asia.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of various government departments, NGOs, global corporations, and other organizations working in the field of sustainability. It played host to a discussion over sustainability trends in the emerging industries of China. Present to offer keynote speeches at the event were Patrick Haverman, Deputy Country Director of UNDP China; Dr. Feng Chen, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Research at the State-owned Assts Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council,PRC(SASAC); and Hui Yuming, China Regional Director of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Representatives of the award-winning companies were invited to explain their companies' experiences and contribution to sustainability at a round-table forum under theme of Challenge and Opportunity for Chinese Sustainability. Xu Ying, Director of the PCN Public Relations Department, took part in this event and stated, "The Chinese market represents one of the most important overseas businesses for the Panasonic Group. More than 70,000 Chinese employees are working in development, sales, and production. We are looking for further opportunities to supply even better products and services to Chinese consumers, and to contribute to the development of China as a whole."
Director Xu also introduced the various public interest and environmental innovation initiatives promoted by Panasonic over the 35 years since the company first established roots in China, and underlined the company's determination, saying "Through further product and technology innovation, we will do everything we possibly can to contribute to the environment in China."
