Panasonic's Solar Light Products to be Exhibited at G7 Ise-Shima Summit International Media Center

Environmental Technologies that Contribute to Better Living in Areas without Electricity

Osaka, Japan - Panasonic Corporation will participate in the Japan Exhibition at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit International Media Center to be set up in Ise City, Mie Prefecture from May 24 (Tuesday) to 28 (Saturday), 2016, with three kinds of products for areas without electricity(*1): Solar Lantern; Solar LED Light; and eneloop solar storage.

The Japan Exhibition will be held in conjunction with the G7 Ise-Shima Summit to demonstrate the wonder of Japan and promote international understanding of Japan's measures and policies. In the venue, 80 distinctive technologies and products of Japan will be on display.

Panasonic offers solar light products that greatly contribute to solving challenges related to the main items on the agenda for the G7 Ise-Shima Summit: climate change, sustainable development, health, and women. Energy generated from clean solar light can be stored and used as a power source for night lighting and small rechargeable devices, such as cellphones. In this way, solar light products facilitate reduction of greenhouse gas with the use of alternative energy rather than conventional fossil fuel and can improve living conditions of as many as 1.2 billion people(*2) living in areas without electricity. In addition, products providing light contribute to night-time medical services and improvement of circumstances for women's social activities.

The G7 Ise-Shima Summit is the first Summit held after the UN summit in September 2015 (State of New York, USA) where the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs)(*3) was adopted. The SDGs focus on global challenges to promote sustainable development, such as eradication of poverty and starvation, energy solutions, climate change control, and realization of peaceful society. The G-7 countries will take the lead in tackling these challenges. In its support for this initiative, Panasonic will also contribute to realization of the SDGs through business activities in cooperation with various international organizations, including the UN, and governments around the world.
