2013 is an exciting year for Myanmar as it opens its doors to the international market. Emerging out of decades of economic and political isolation, the young country is one full of vitality and promise.
Panasonic has been offering all its product categories in Myanmar since 1979 via distributors. For the last 34 years, the Panasonic brand is regarded as reliable, trustworthy and of high quality. The move to establish the Panasonic Asia Pacific Myanmar Branch office in Yangon reflects the company's expectations and cements its commitment to this new emerging market. At the opening ceremony held on 3rd June, 2013, Panasonic highlighted these hopes and plans for Myanmar.
- Yorihisa Shiokawa, Managing Director, Panasonic Asia Pacific
"As a fast growing country with a large youth population, Myanmar is an important market for Panasonic. We believe that the country will continue to grow and prosper socially and economically in the coming years. Hence, we hope to further strengthen our business here and contribute to the country's progress by establishing a Panasonic Asia Pacific branch office in the key commercial city of Yangon," said Mr. Yorihisa Shiokawa, Managing Director, Panasonic Asia Pacific.
As one of the first priorities, the new branch office will enhance market visualization by gathering data on market dynamics, consumer behaviours and consumer attitudes in order to provide the best solutions and products suited to the local market. Starting this month, Panasonic has selected about 600 houses to participate in a comprehensive market survey. Communications with local dealers will also be strengthened. Secondly, it will provide support to other Panasonic sales companies for the development of the business-to-business segment. Lastly, the branch office will utilize a dual product strategy to tap on different sets of consumer groups, targeting high end, as well as high volume segments.
Amongst the range of Panasonic products, the new model of its Solar LED Lantern with a charger function for mobile phones and other small devices will be a key product that Panasonic hopes to market in Myanmar in order to improve the quality of lives of many people in the country who are still living without electricity. In addition, Panasonic will aggressively market its newest range of audio visual equipment and line-up of Panasonic Beauty and grooming products.
After 44 years, Myanmar will once again host the SEA Games. Panasonic has confirmed its participation as the first official sponsors of the 27th SEA Games and will provide product categories such as home appliances and audio visual that will be needed for the Games' operations. Panasonic will also support the manufacture and provision of the official uniforms for the Myanmar team at the SEA Games.
These efforts only mark the start of Panasonic's promising journey in Myanmar.
