Panasonic Integrates R&D Centre in Its New Washing Machine Factory in Vietnam

    The symbolic integration of R&D centre with manufacturing puts Panasonic Appliances Vietnam (PAPVN) at the forefront of the home appliance business in the ASEAN region.

On 20th March 2013, Panasonic's appliance company in Vietnam, Panasonic Appliances Vietnam (PAPVN) inaugurated its new washing machine factory in Thang Long Industrial Park II, Yen My district, Hung Yen province. The US$32 million factory, spanning 52,000m2, is the first in Vietnam which boasts such integration.

The inauguration was a commemorative one as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam and the 10th anniversary of the PAPVN's establishment in Vietnam.

The new factory focuses on the development of Panasonic's advanced eco and smart technologies, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability. The factory aims to achieve 50% of production for the local market and 50% for export to other ASEAN countries. It targets manufacturing capacity of 600,000 sets of washing machines per annum and employment to around 300 locals by 2014. R&D integration within the facility serves as a launch pad for innovation as it develops cutting-edge home appliances with advanced designs catered for the local market as well as other ASEAN countries.
