Panasonic Corporation, along with 8 partner companies. established the Fujisawa SST Management Company on March 7 2013, aiming to realize sustainable smart services and to achieve the environmental, safety and security targets for the Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (FSST) project.
On April 1 2013, the Fujisawa SST Management Company began small scale dispersed-location solar generation business on public land in the town.
The business is part of the PPP (public private partnership) business(*1) between Panasonic and Fujisawa City, who have been looking into the concept of the Fujisawa SST since 2007, and will be the first case in Fujisawa City for a company to use public land (public sewage land located in the south of the town) for solar power generation. The generation capacity is approximately 100kW/h.
At Fujisawa City, as a model to reinforce measures against emergencies and to expand usage of renewable energy, electricity is provided during emergencies (blackouts) not only to town residents but also to surrounding areas(*2). Also, all electricity will be sold to the grid to support the maintenance of solar generation equipments.
The Fujisawa SST Management Company is planning to widely expand small scale dispersed-location solar generation as a model, and by connecting solar generation in other areas, is aiming for virtual mega solar generation in the future.
*1 A method in which public and private organizations collaborate, aiming to improve efficiency of the municipality.
*2 Providing electricity in case of emergency (black outs) to residents and surrounding areas will start from town opening expected in Spring 2014.
