Panasonic Starts New Factory Operation for Surface-mount Technology Equipment in China

Panasonic, a global leader of surface-mount technology (SMT) equipment with a worldwide sales and service network has started operation in the new factory to manufacture <span class="caps">SMT equipment, namely electronic component mounting system and peripherals in Suzhou, China. The new factory is a relocated base of Panasonic Factory Solutions Suzhou Co., Ltd with an enhanced production capacity, and is about 35,000 square meter in area approximately three times larger than the former site. We celebrated its opening ceremony on April 27 with about 120 participants.

Panasonic Factory Solutions Suzhou was originally established in October 2003 as the second overseas manufacturing plant of Panasonic Factory Solutions Co.,Ltd, a subsidiary company within Panasonic. Since its start of operation in April of the following year, we have been expanding the production capacity, mainly for the cost-effective modular mounter, solder paste printing machines and peripherals. In the end of 2010, we have also started the production for the new concept machine called “Production modular” in order to respond to the growing global demand. To further strengthen the production capacity of <span class="caps">SMT related equipment mainly for China, which is the largest market for such <span class="caps">SMT equipment with expectations for demand to grow continuously, we have built the new enhanced factory located 10 kilometer away to the east of the former site in the same industrial park, and transferred the production.

In the new factory, we will strengthen our development functions as well as service capability, such as a training center, an inventory for spare parts, and global procurement of parts and materials to meet customer requirements. Utilizing the new factory operations, Panasonic hopes to contribute to the development of production within China using the strengths of Japanese manufacturing technology.
