Sitting in the 40-degree reclining seats, kids are mesmerized by the vivid images the Panasonic PT-DZ8700U projectors create on the gigantic screen in Banamex Digital Dome.

Children who visit the Papalote Museo del Nino (Children's Museum) in Mexico City can totally immerse themselves in another world, meeting their favorite animated characters in a way they have never experienced before - in a 15-meter high, 23-meter diameter dome theater. Behind the scenes, eight Panasonic PT-DZ8700U projectors produce Full-HD clear and vivid true-to-life images on the 830-square-meter screen of the Banamex Digital Dome theater in the museum. The museum has a capacity of 269 seats and six wheelchairs.

Panasonic's Full HD Projector PT-DZ8700U and Digital Control Room

These Panasonic projectors have been operational since this past April, replacing nine XGA resolution projectors of a Belgian maker in use since the museum's inauguration in 2004. Over the years, the museum had encountered many problems with the old systems such as quarterly replacement of lamps costing some US$50,000 per occasion, insufficient luminosity and long downtime for maintenance by servicemen who flew over from Belgium each time. To renovate those troublesome systems, the museum called several potential suppliers for bidding earlier this year, and Panasonic's Mexican company PANAMEX won the bid. Introducing the PT-DZ8700U to the museum has offered the theatre system superior features and performance: reliable dual lamp system, 13 times greater lumens over the old ones, one annual lamp change, as well as the Geometric Adjustment and Edge Blending functions that assure seamless projection on a extra-wide, spherical screen. Most importantly, maintenance is readily served by PANAMEX and its local dealer, making reparation costs minimal.

Content shown at the museum include materials familiar to children such as Sesame Street, Star Trek and documentaries produced by the American Museum of Natural History, NASA and National Geographic Society. The theater runs all year long with eight to ten daily showings.
