Tokyo, Japan – Since August 2026, a Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell*1 supplied by Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. and an Air-to-Water Heat Pump System (A2W)*2 supplied by Panasonic HVAC & CC Co., Ltd. have been installed at the “Hydrogen House”*3 demonstration facility operated by the Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof)*4 in Jyväskylä, Finland.

In Central Finland, limited winter daylight hours make year-round solar energy utilization challenging. This demonstration project aims to verify the optimization and scalability of an integrated energy solution that combines a Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell and an Air-to-Water Heat Pump System to maximize the value of hydrogen utilization. By supplying electricity to the Hydrogen House and thermal energy for whole-building heating, the system is designed to improve overall energy efficiency throughout the year while making the most effective use of available hydrogen resources.

Following an initial trial operation period, the installed systems are scheduled to enter continuous operation by the end of 2026.

At full capacity, the Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell delivers 10 kW of electrical output, while the A2W system provides 9 kW of thermal output.

Overview of the Integrated Hydrogen Energy and Heat Pump Solution

This project is thought to be one of the first integrated hydrogen energy demonstrations in Europe, comparable to existing projects in Japan. It is expected to provide valuable insights into the feasibility of indoor hydrogen energy systems and their integration with heating equipment under Finland’s harsh winter conditions. Through this initiative, Panasonic aims to develop solutions tailored to diverse applications and regional requirements while strengthening relationships with local partners and customers in the hydrogen sector.

Panasonic will continue to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous society by advancing renewable hydrogen solutions and creating new value through its Well-Being and Energy Management initiatives.
