In November 2010, Panasonic signed an official sponsorship agreement with Infineon Raceway, located in Sonoma, California, and pledged that we will collaborate with the raceway's environmental and sustainability initiatives until the end of the contractual term, 2015. As part of such activities, Panasonic began working on the installation of the Panasonic Solar Power Generation System HIT® at the raceway in January this year, and on June 25 we announced its completion, just in time for the NASCAR* Sprint Cup.
*NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) races are professional racing competitions for modified four-wheel commercial vehicles.
Panasonic Solar Power Generation System HIT® installed at the Infineon Raceway (consisting of 1,580 HIT-215 photovoltaic modules and 72 HIT Double-195 photovoltaic modules) will generate over 350kW of electricity. This is equivalent to approximately 41% of all electricity the raceway will need on any given day.
According to president and general manager of Infineon Raceway, Mr. Steve Page, the raceway has now become "uniquely positioned to take the message of sustainability to the horsepower-and-performance crowd who have not necessarily been the early adopters in this movement." And also he said "This partnership with Panasonic is the first major building block in this new initiative and we're delighted to welcome them as a founding partner."
As awareness for energy conservation continues to rise, solar power generation remains to hold the key to Panasonic's environmental programs. We will continue to give shape to the sustainable solutions we are promoting at Infineon Raceway, and while still keeping solar power generation in our sight, we will push forward our search for even greater energy efficiency.
