Panasonic North America Exhibited Smart Cities New York

New York, NY, U.S. - Smart Cities New York was held at Pier 36 in New York City, from May 8 to 10, 2018, with approximately 3,000 attendees. The event offered 30 workshops, 40 keynote speeches and panel discussions, and exhibitions of government and company pavilions, for visitors to explore future technologies for smart city, an industry that is expected to grow by $ 1.6 trillion on a global scale by 2020. Panasonic introduced the latest smart city technology currently in a pilot program Denver, CO, at the Japan Pavilion which was hosted by the Japanese Consulate together with the Hitachi Group, Shimizu Corporation, and Daikin Industries.

At the Panasonic booth, the Smart Parking Meter, an IoT connected parking meter, was on display. Panasonic introduced a solution that enables people to search and book vacant parking spaces on their smartphones, and another solution for cities to utilize data of parking space operations for future planning in transportation and development.

In addition, Panasonic introduced the "Smart Street solution" which uses security camera and image analysis of pedestrian traffic with AI. Many cities in Europe and the United States are working on Vision Zero (zero traffic dead / injured goal) and are focusing on realizing safer roads and intersections. Together with Denver, Colorado, which aims to achieve Vision Zero, Panasonic started testing this technology last year as part of its Smart City project "CityNOW" which opened in 2015. This technology identifies "pedestrian" "bicycle" "motorcycle" "automobile" traffic to and from the intersection and tracks the speed and volume of the traffic flow. Panasonic plans to acquire data from this system and develop a new solution further reduce accidents and improve road operation.

Panasonic will realize A Better Life, A Better World through smart city creation using the latest technology around the world.
