The Lumiere Japan Awards are presented annually by the Advanced Imaging Society, Japan Committee (AIS-J), the Japanese chapter of an international organization of industry professionals. The awards aim to promote and share exceptional video content utilizing advanced imaging technology. This year, nineteen works received awards in four categories recognizing achievement in 3D, 4K, 8K, and VR (Virtual Reality) content, and the awards were presented during Inter BEE (International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition) in Japan.

This is the third consecutive triumph for Panasonic at the Lumiere Japan Awards, and its first Grand Prix win. Panasonic won Excellence Awards in the UHD (Ultra High Definition) Category for "Carrying a Wish" in 2017 and "The Festival of Up Helly Aa" in 2018.

Winners of the Lumiere Japan Awards 2019 qualify for the Advanced Imaging Society's Creative Arts International Awards to be held in January 2020, and Panasonic will be entering the English versions of both films for consideration.

About "Joy lives in New Orleans Jazz" and "The Gift"

New Orleans, U.S.A., is known best as the birthplace of Jazz. In the heart of this historic city, you will find a particularly old building known as Preservation Hall. This beautiful wooden music venue built in 1961 holds more than 350 jazz concerts a year, even to this day. As the sun sets, locals and tourists wait in line in front of Preservation Hall to enjoy the incredible atmosphere & live music, every night.

Using Panasonic's 4K camera for professionals and an 8K prototype, Panasonic produced two separate short films (4K HDR and 8K) to showcase the energy of jazz music as well as the joy of jazz musicians in the historic city of New Orleans. Panasonic's professional audio-visual equipment captures the texture of historical buildings, the glint of well-used instruments & the energetic atmosphere of the jazz performance by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
