Panasonic’s technologies couple innovation with Customer First insights, transforming lifestyles with new designs and manufacturing. This is a story of technologies that deliver new value to society and open doors to the future.

Benefits

Turn hair drying into hair care
Get salon-quality results at home

ELMISTA Beautifying Hair Dryer

The new ELMISTA hair dryer was jointly developed by Panasonic and Milbon Co., Ltd., Japanese manufacturer of salon-exclusive haircare products and cosmetics. While drying, ELMISTA can use Airy Mist technology to spray a fine, precise amount of beauty serum to repair damaged hair. It delivers uniform serum application even to the hair roots, which are difficult to reach. With ELMISTA, anyone can achieve salon-level results.

Challenge

Innovative spray technology × serum formulation
To deliver beauty serum, even down to the hair roots

Idea
Uniform coating with any type of serum

The pump delivers minute amounts of beauty serum, while the nozzle atomizes serums of any composition and viscosity for great versatility.

New beauty serum formulation

New beauty serum formulation

To deliver beauty serum from a hair dryer required a new serum formulation that stably dispersed finely atomized oil components in a water-based solution.

Precise serum delivery with Air Combing technology

ELMISTA’s airflow sends beauty serum precisely and uniformly to each hair strand. Its powerful, highly directional air stream separates hair strands gently and delivers thorough care, even down to the hair roots.

Development of Airy Mist technology, which delivers fine atomization of beauty serum, would have been impossible without collaboration with Milbon, which formulated the serum, and from the manufacturing partners responsible for the key components of tube pump, pouch, and nozzle. With no precedents to guide us, even material selection initially proved difficult, and no single company could have met the mass production deadline. We therefore formed an alliance to co-develop the product. For example, we identified the best material for the serum container with help from a rubber manufacturer. Sharing strengths and weaknesses transparently allowed the development team to reach the mass-production stage in roughly a year. Panasonic’s philosophy of co-existence and mutual prosperity* was highly regarded by Milbon, and their commitment to supporting their salon customers also made a strong impression on us. Milbon inspired us to reflect on how to be more effective in practicing implementation.

* One of the Panasonic management philosophies. By collaborating while maintaining individual autonomy, people can bring out the best in each other and demonstrate collective strength, thereby making greater contributions to society.
