Tokyo, Japan – Panasonic Connect Co., Ltd. announced the ET-FMP50 Series at ISE 2024, comprising three media processors that simplify workflows and enhance multi-projection experiences in immersive environments. The series includes two box-type devices (ET-FMP50/FMP20) and an Intel® SDM standard SLOT-compatible function board (ET-SBFMP10). Exclusively designed for multi-projection, the series supports manual or camera-based4 automatic warping and blending as well as media playback functions, streamlining workflow with user-friendly features while enhancing reliability within a Panasonic multi-projection ecosystem.

Development Background

As a co-creative technology partner, Panasonic Connect has unique insight into the challenges faced when building immersive attractions under time and budget constraints. The ET-FMP50 Series addresses the need for simplicity and reliability in complex multi-projection environments, providing a holistic media distribution solution for Panasonic projection ecosystems that reduces cabling and installation complexity, enhances interoperability, and elevates the visual experience for guests. The company’s vision is to continue simplifying AV systems and workflows for Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) and fixed-installation immersive experiences, developing new functionality for the system and giving users the choice to update only the features they require.

Streamlined Workflow to Simplify Every Step

Thanks to its compact form factor, ET-FMP50/FMP20 can be installed close to the projectors, reducing cabling length and complexity, or in a standard rack with optional rack-mounting kits5. It supports a 3840 x 2160p content canvasutp6 out via 4x HDMI™. Multiple units can be synced to connect fleets of any scale. ET-SBFMP10, meanwhile, inserts into the projector’s Intel® SDM standard-compatible SLOT to decode 3840 x 2160p signals. All products offer built-in manual or automatic screen geometry, edge blending, and black level adjustment for flat or curved surfaces via a camera4. With seamless compatibility with Panasonic projectors, operators can troubleshoot easily and enjoy swift support from a common manufacturer. The products are compatible with Multi Monitoring & Control Software7, while ET-FMP50/FMP20 complements sustainable Panasonic projection with its low power consumption. In addition, content playback can be automated to a set schedule.

Precision Adjustment for Uncompromising Quality

The ET-FMP50 Series features pixel-based rather than block-based adjustment to limit unevenness in blends and a loss in post-adjustment image quality, with precision comparable to the projector’s built-in and software-based adjustment. No licenses are required to access the automated camera-based4 features. The series also includes sophisticated free-shape and line-masking capabilities, allowing users to create immersive visual effects quickly and accurately. Panasonic Connect plans to offer future firmware updates that will further enhance the devices with additional capabilities, such as support for dome and 3D object mapping and auto color balance/uniformity calibration. Adjustment is performed on a pixel-by-pixel basis, allowing for more precise correction. As a result, post-adjustment image quality is optimized for a smoother finish that accurately expresses fine details and contributes to the faithful reproduction of the creator’s content.

Smooth and Continuous 4K Playback

With storage capacity ranging from 4TB to 512 GB3, the Linux-based ET-FMP50 Series supports continuous playback of high-quality video at up to 300 Mbps. All products decode H.265 and H.264 codecs, with the ET-FMP50 also supporting the HAP2 codec. NDI® compatibility enables cost-effective transmission of broadcast-quality video signals over LAN.

In every aspect, these new media processors make the lives of operators easier without compromising image quality. Looking ahead, Panasonic Connect remains committed to advancing system performance with the introduction of enhanced capabilities while giving users the freedom to update only the specific features they need, enhancing flexibility, usability, and return on investment.

ET-FMP50/FMP20 will be available from CY2024 Q2, and ET-SBFMP10 from CY2024 Q4. For more on Panasonic’s visual solutions, please visit us at Booth #3J500 at ISE 2024 (Barcelona Fira Gran Via, January 30 – February 2, 2024) or our global projector website at https://panasonic.net/cns/projector.
