Panasonic and Partners Reveal Details of Services and Facilities for Smart Town in Fujisawa

With a 100-year sustainable vision, the partners will accelerate efforts to realize a futuristic town that brings energy to life.

OSAKA, Japan - Panasonic Corporation and the Fujisawa SST Council today announced the operators who are responsible for the planning and operation of the commercial, health, welfare and educational facilities and the details of these businesses that will be developed at the Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (Fujisawa SST), an innovative eco-conscious town now under construction on the outskirts of Tokyo. In addition, the details of the security services and mobility services, which are part of the town services to be provided by the Fujisawa SST Management Company, and the service partners who will provide these services were also announced. Through this announcement, all the parties involved in the project will further accelerate their efforts towards the development of an integrated and advanced smart town that brings energy to life.

Fujisawa SST, announced first in May 2011, is a project aiming to build a sustainable smart town on the roughly 19-hectare vacant lot of Panasonic's former factory site in Fujisawa City, about 50 km west of Tokyo. Construction of homes already started September this year in the blocks designated for single-family detached homes. The town is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014. With a 100-year vision for the lifestyles for the 1,000 households in the town, the project will foster a community that develops sustainably through the introduction of new services and technologies.

The Fujisawa SST Council is comprised of 17 business organizations and one welfare corporation. Working with advisors, including Fujisawa City, the members carry out efforts to build an environmentally-conscious town, towards opening the Fujisawa SST in the spring of 2014.
