Panasonic Introduces Its Advanced Care Solutions "For Nursing Care and Lifestyles of the Future" - H.C.R. 2015

Oct 26, 2015

Tokyo, Japan - Panasonic Corporation Eco Solutions Company (hereafter referred to as "Panasonic") took part in one of Asia's largest welfare equipment exhibitions, the "42nd International Home Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition - H.C.R. 2015" (October 7 (Wed) - 9 (Fri), Venue: Tokyo Big Sight).

Panasonic has combined 18 years of experience in the care business and advanced technologies to propose 3 solutions, "Rehabilitation/Care Prevention," "Care for Dementia," and "Mobility Assistance" and a wide range of care and welfare products under the concept, "Advanced care solutions Panasonic envisions for 2025 - for nursing care and lifestyles of the future."

Rehabilitation/Care Prevention

Panasonic introduced a "3D measurement and training system" (provisional name) to assist with care prevention and rehabilitation training in nursing homes and daycare facilities. A 3D camera that gauges "body movement" suggests training methods according to each patient's physical condition. Furthermore, patients can view themselves as they train on a monitor from 3 directions (front and both sides), which enables training through correct body movement. The aim is to keep patients motivated and to help them live independently longer.

Care for Dementia

3 systems integrated with sensing technology were introduced as "Guardian System for elderly care."

Above the bed: "Vital Signs Sensing Guardian System"
Keeps an eye on the vital signs of the person on the bed and contributes to early detection of overnight emergencies and roaming.

In the room: "Smart A/C Guardian System"
Senses the user's body movements and presence/absence from the room. The air conditioning can also be controlled remotely.

Front door: "Face Authentication System"
Recognizes faces and unlocks the door automatically, enabling smooth exit and entry.

By combining these 3 systems, the Guardian System will help decrease risks due to change in vital signs and lightens the caregiver burden.

Mobility Assistance

Panasonic introduced a "self-reliance support robot" that senses user's movements while standing or seated, assists the user by providing lacking body strength, and thereby alleviating the stress experienced during transfer, movement, and when sitting down. Compared to the model on display at the H.C.R. 2014, the new model is more compact in size and capable of smoother movement inside rooms of elderly care facilities.

As the elderly population in Japan will reach 30% of the entire population by 2025, Panasonic's nursing care business (age-free business) will endeavor to make an even greater social contribution by expanding its business (200 billion yen in sales). As a platform for introducing nursing care equipment also showcased at this exhibition, Panasonic will establish 200 "Nursing care service centers 'including short stays'" and 150 "Ageless Homes," serviced homes for the elderly (contract based) by 2018.
