Panasonic Russia Becomes an Official Sponsor of Russian Hockey Club HC Locomotive

Panasonic Russia has become an official sponsor of one of Russia's leading Hockey clubs, HC Locomotive (Yaroslavl), for the current hockey season - from September 1st, 2012 till April 30th, 2013. The new partnership is an important step for Panasonic as the decision to support a Russian sports team has been made for the first time in the company's history.

Being a Worldwide Olympic partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for over 25 years, Panasonic pays much attention to global promotion of sports. The partnership with the legendary Russian club will promote Olympic principles and Panasonic values in the run-up to XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

HC Locomotive has been one of the leaders of Russian hockey for many years. The team has scored a lot of brilliant victories and awards, including gold medals of the National championship in 1997, 2002 and 2003, as well as Silver medals in 2008 and 2009. Established in Yaroslavl in 1959 as a team of Yaroslavl Motor Zavod (YaMZ), the club has always played a key role in the cultural life of the city and region. Both the players and the coaches of the main and junior teams have become the idols for the people of the region.

In the new season, HC Locomotive participates in a series of Continental Hockey League games, the first match having taken place on September 6th in Novosibirsk with HC Sibir.

The Yaroslavl team, created in mid-1950s, bears its current name since 2000, when it began to represent Russian Railways. Lokomotiv (formerly - Torpedo) is a three-time winner of the national championship (1997, 2002, 2003). The team also finished second best twice (in 2008 and 2009) and third best four times (in 1998, 1999, 2005 and 2011) winning the championship's silver and bronze medals respectively. In 1998, the team participated in the final tournament of the top European clubs, and in 2003 season was the silver medalist of the European IIHF Continental Cup and bronze medalist of the Spengler Cup. The team was trained by famous coaches: Sergey Nikolaev, Petr Vorobyev, Vladimir Vujtek, Valeriy Yurzinov, Kari Heikkila, and others.
