This month, Panasonic India put together an exciting event together with its fans online. Through its existing social media networks (Twitter, Facebook), Panasonic India gathered messages from over 21,000 fans to create the world's largest fan messages board for its Cheer-a-thon in support of the Delhi Daredevils, a cricket team which the company sponsors and at the same time gaining a new Guinness world record in the process.
What is Delhi Daredevils Cheer-a-thon?
Panasonic launched the 'Delhi Daredevils Cheer-a-thon" in association with Select City Walk. The 'Delhi Daredevils Cheer-a-thon' is an innovative campaign to involve the cricket lovers and fans in the city to be a part of the excitement of the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL season 5, starting April 4th is the third year of Panasonics' sponsorship for the Delhi Daredevils team.
Panasonic India held the campaign from April 2 to 8, 2012 in India. A kick off ceremony was held on April 2 with key players such as the Daredevil's captain Virender Sehwag in attendance to stir up attention. The campaign began with the players sticking up their own messages on the board.
Then the campaign moved online and the result..? A creation of an 82 m2 (34.15 m long by 2.4 m high) fan message board, the world's largest and double the size of the previous record of 40 m2, allowing Panasonic India to claim the new Guinness record. In line with Panasonic's environmental commitment, Panasonic India also used seed paper* for the message card, earning praises from the judges for its environmental consideration.
*Seed paper: This special paper has a seed embedded in it and a plant can grow from it if planted in soil for three days.
The official Guinness world record recognition ceremony was held on April 8 with attendance from Panasonic India President Daizo Ito, Director Manish Sharma, Director Motoki Nakahara and the Daredevil's Mahela Jaywardne. In addition a large audience joined together for the celebration of the achievement of a Guinness world record.
The message board will be donated to the NGO, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
