Panasonic Short Film Wins Grand Prix in 8K Category at Lumiere Japan Awards 2020

Tokyo, Japan - On November 18, 2020, Panasonic Corporation won the Grand Prix in the 8K Category at the Lumiere Japan Awards 2020 for its 8K short film, "History in Samarkand Blue." This Grand Prix in the 8K Category is a first for Panasonic, following its 2019 Grand Prix win in the 4K Category.

The Lumiere Japan Awards are presented annually by the Advanced Imaging Society, Japan Committee (AIS-J), the Japanese chapter of an international organization of industry professionals. The awards aim to promote and share exceptional video content utilizing advanced imaging technology. This year, the Lumiere Japan Awards recognized achievement in four categories: 3D, 4K, 8K, and VR (Virtual Reality).

Winners of the Lumiere Japan Awards 2020 qualify for the Advanced Imaging Society's Creative Arts International Awards to be held in January 2021, and Panasonic will be entering the English version of "History in Samarkand Blue" for consideration.

In addition to its Grand Prix at the Lumiere Japan Awards, "History in Samarkand Blue" also took home the "4K/8K Video Award" at the 2020 4K/VR Tokushima Movie Festival.
