An Ecological Start to The New Year at the Panasonic Family Fun Day!

What better way to mark the new year than by reiterating our eco commitment at the Panasonic Family Fun Day and Clean Up Drive! Panasonic employees and their family members got together at the popular Zabeel Park for a community clean up initiative, providing the Dubai municipality staff a chance to enjoy a relaxing day off their duties.

"Panasonic ECO RELAY" activities began as an employee proposal that Panasonic members should connect one another through eco actions. Since 1998, Panasonic has promoted the activities aimed at encouraging its employees and their families to raise environmental awareness through their positive environmental actions in home and local communities, and improving their lifestyles. This series features various "ECO RELAY activities" reported by members of Panasonic.

Donning colourful t-shirts, Panasonic employees were formed into different teams for the clean up. It was a fun-filled day featuring various recreational activities for the families who took part, such as face-painting and on ground games. The drive was organised in conjunction with the Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Centre for Arab Towns.

The Panasonic Family Fun Day is a culmination of a month long sustainability drive which saw 600kg of plastic waste being collected and sent for recycling to Imdaad, UAE's leading provider of integrated facilities management solutions.

"Waste management is one of the biggest challenges that must be addressed in a fast-growing economy such as the UAE," said Mr. Mahmood Hussein Rasheed, Chief Operating Officer of Imdaad.

Recycling a tonne of plastic saves 16 barrels of oil, helping to extend the lifespan of depleting fossil fuel reserves. Compared to producing new plastic from virgin raw materials, recycling uses only two thirds of the amount of energy, thereby saving 500kW-hours of electrical energy.
