Field Test Conducted for Mobile Robot Vending Service “PIMTO” at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Panasonic Holdings Corporation (Panasonic HD) provided its “PIMTO” Mobile Robot Vending Service, which uses remotely operated robots, for unmanned sales at Shinjuku Gyoen from November 7 through December 8, 2024. The garden, located in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment.
With the number of visitors to Shinjuku Gyoen increasing, Panasonic HD sought to enhance visitor satisfaction while maintaining service quality by increasing opportunities to purchase products that convey the charm of Shinjuku Gyoen. At the same time, it wanted to contribute to universal design from a working perspective by conducting a field test of mobile unmanned sales that support welfare employment.

Details of the Field Test

  1. Utilization of Mobile Unmanned Vending Robots:

Providing unmanned vending robots that can increase sales opportunities without having to construct permanent facilities, thereby preserving the landscape and nature of the garden.

  2. Design Experiences to Enhance the Satisfaction of Frequent Visitors, Including International Tourists:

Conducting marketing research to identify the needs of inbound customers, supporting the planning of products to be sold, and planning and development of specifications for robots that improve the purchasing experience, thereby contributing to increased visitor numbers, satisfaction, and sales.

  3. Support for Welfare Employment:

Promoting “universal design from a working perspective” by creating an environment that accommodates the needs of people with disabilities or other challenges. Such employment opportunities include operating robots remotely for mobile tasks and packaging sales products in collaboration with welfare facilities.

  4. Utilization of Operational Support Applications:

Developing and providing the operational support application “PIMTO UI” to facilitate smooth and easy execution of tasks, such as inventory replenishment, product replacement, and movement requests.

Note: The field test took place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from November 7 through December 8, 2024.
