About the Short Film, "Carrying a Wish"

Every year on the night of the full moon in the 12th lunar month, the Loy Krathong Festival is held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. During this festival, people give thanks, and hope to cast away their sins by floating garden lanterns adorned with flowers down the river or by releasing lanterns into the sky. In this film, countless lanterns floating up through the night sky provides a beautiful, almost magic-like sight to behold. Filmed with the Panasonic VariCam 35 and VariCam LT, this short film captures beautiful sights of the festival and incorporates interviews with sky lantern artisans as well as the mayor of Chiang Mai.

Comments from the Judges
  • It is remarkable how the entire film is composed to specifically express the qualities of 4K HDR, especially the beauty of the sky lanterns being released into the night sky.
  • The beauty of the film seemed to "purify the heart" itself.
