Panasonic developed this system (model AF-BB010) in cooperation with Embratel, a telecommunications company and Brazil's National Olympic Committee Sponsor. The modulator of this system can receive multiple TV broadcast signals from satellites as well live signals from competition venues, and then converts them into high resolution digital signals for TV. The converted signals were rapidly delivered to the Olympic Village and each competition venue, and viewers were able to watch clear, crisp images without any stress.
According to Ms. Samara Assis of Panasonic Brazil, "Usually, in a hotel or even in our houses, we have a TV with a box we call set-up box or (encoder), and we need 2 remote controls, 1 to control the TV, and the other for channels. This solution facilitates the arrival of the signal and the use of the final consumer, the person who uses the TV. Panasonic's engineering team developed a monitoring system, so we can see in real-time if an equipment is presenting any problem, so that no one will be without the TV signal. So throughout the period of the Olympic Games, both athletes and the Rio 2016 Organising Committee will receive quality TV signals thank to this partnership between Panasonic and Embratel."
And Mr. Luciano Carino from Embratel commented, "If we used the set-up box, we would have to use a large number of different configurations. This greatly hinders the pre-installation, operation, and maintenance. Through the solution developed in partnership with Panasonic, the productivity gain can be valued at approximately 6,000 hours. Panasonic is a longtime partner of Embratel, so it was very easy to work together. The synergy that originated from this project came from the technical and commercial cooperation between teams.
This system made installation more simple and efficient. And during the Games, all viewers, including athletes, could view a wide range of channels without any stress.
Since Calgary 1988, Panasonic has been supporting the Olympic Games as an Official Worldwide Partner for more than 25 years. With its cutting-edge technologies, Panasonic will continue to deliver captivating images and to share the passion and excitement of sports with people across the world.
