Osaka, Japan – Panasonic Group (hereafter referred to as “Panasonic”) will host the Kid Witness News (KWN) Global Summit 2022 online on Saturday, December 3, 2022. This year's summit will be held from 9:00 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. (Japan Standard Time, GMT+9), with the participation of children from a total of 19 schools from six countries, in addition to various stakeholders. The children were selected to represent their countries in contests to choose the best video production entry from among the applicants. Participants will gather in each country, and each location will be connected to a studio in Hamacho, Tokyo, which will broadcast the program live on the Internet. In this program, Panasonic will show the children's work and their interactions, and present awards to the most outstanding productions.

The summit will feature the presentation of three awards for the most outstanding productions submitted by each country.
Voting for the KWN Fans Award will open on Wednesday, November 2. We hope you will take this opportunity to take a look at the productions these children have given their all to create, and that you will show your support by voting.

In addition, on the day of the livestream of the summit, we will also present a variety of scenes of international exchange between the children, including a joint declaration on the SDGs by the participating schools, presentations of video workshops in each country, and other initiatives.

Ahead of the summit, in early November, we will begin accepting videos and pictures with SDGs-themed messages from children around the world. Some of the submitted messages will be selected for streaming on the day of the summit and be broadcast worldwide. Schoolmates, homework buddies, friends, and even individuals are warmly invited to submit their messages.

Children intently working on video production
KWN is part of Panasonic's next-generation development support activities, in which Panasonic lends its professional video equipment to support filmmaking by children. Through filmmaking, the children work to enhance their creativity and communication skills and foster teamwork. Over the 33 years since the program began in the United States in 1989, it has had a cumulative total of more than 180,000 participants, including teachers. With these productions, created with themes like communication and the SDGs, this program has been delivering messages from children's perspectives to help solve problems.
For many years, the KWN Global Contest represented an annual gathering for KWN contest winners in each country and region. In recent years, the KWN Global Summit has taken shape as a unified opportunity to learn about different cultures and deepen exchanges and to think together about global social issues and deepen understanding. This year’s event will be the third time the KWN Global Summit has been held.
